  1. This is a 6x7 GDOS monospaced font, intended for use with STalker.  (But you    
  2. can of course use it for almost any purpose - it's just that it's mainly of use 
  3. as a terminal program font.)  Ordinarily STalker has a lot of problems          
  4. displaying things in medium resolution on a stock ST, since none of the fonts   
  5. it comes with are truly suitable for creating an 80x24 or larger display.  This 
  6. font allows you to use STalker in medium resolution and have it display a full  
  7. screen's worth of text in a window.  It is based on one of the fonts STalker    
  8. comes with, PC_ANSI.FNT.  It looks a little funny in places, because I          
  9. effectively had 5x6 pixels to work with, but it's quite useable and readable.

  11. You'll need to add the font to the GDOS ASSIGN.SYS file.  Copy ANSICOLR.FNT     
  12. into your GDOS fonts folder, and open ASSIGN.SYS with your favorite text        
  13. editor.  Look through the .SYS file until you find a line that reads something  
  14. like "03p SCREEN.SYS".  Insert another line immediately after this line and     
  15. type in "ANSICOLR.FNT".  The "03" is important, because it signifies the        
  16. beginning of the list of fonts to be used in ST medium resolution.  Reboot      
  17. after you're done so that GDOS recognizes the new font.

  19. Now, for STalker.  Select the font with STalker's "Terminal Settings" dialog    
  20. box.  After you exit it, you'll need to resize the STalker window to get the    
  21. most out of the font.  Clicking the full-size box (in the upper right hand      
  22. corner of the window) ought to do the trick.  Now use "Save Configuration" in   
  23. the File menu to record your window size and font settings.

  25. If you full-size STalker's window, eliminate the menu bar, and eliminate the    
  26. horizontal scroll bar (look in the "Options" menu), you will get an 80x25       
  27. display.  (Probably 80x26 if you use STalker as a program, since then it        
  28. doesn't have the extra area in the window used for the menus.)  This will       
  29. revert to 80x24 after a configuration save and reboot, because of STalker's     
  30. quirks with respect to saving a window size that is almost as tall as the       
  31. screen.
